Oral Health

Oral hygiene education

Brush your teeth twice a day, moving the toothbrush up and down at a 45-degree angle. Use a soft bristle toothbrush and replace it every four months. Floss daily to be able to remove plaque that accumulates in between your teeth that the toothbrush can’t reach. Brush your tongue without toothpaste. Use mouth rinse, ideally with fluoride, and make sure to follow the recommended instructions.

Nutrition

What we eat has a direct impact on our oral health. Make sure to always have a balanced diet. The limit in between meal snacks, avoid sugars and can/bottle drinks.

Hygiene

When the patient comes to the office and is evaluated by the dentist, it would be determined what type of cleaning and how often will the patient needs their teeth cleaned.

Normally the patient will need regular cleaning and have it performed every six months. However, if the patient has a periodontal disease they will need a different type of cleaning and will have to receive periodontal maintenance every three to four months to prevent

Periodontal treatment

When patients have continuous moderate gingivitis to bone loss around their teeth, they will need scaling and root planning. It involves cleaning the surface of the root to remove plaque and calculus build-up that causes inflammation to control the ongoing disease. The condition is diagnosed by your dentist using a dental probe and X-rays.

If the condition is too severe or hasn’t been controlled, your dentist may have to refer you to a Periodontist for additional treatment.

Removable prosthesis

Remove them from the mouth, and fill them with water in the sink to avoid dropping and breaking them. Brush them with water to remove stains and debris. Do not use toothpaste since it has abrasive particles that will scratch them and make them look dull. Clean the inside of your mouth. When you are not wearing them place them in a safe place with water.
